This may have been collected by John Jacob Niles, but I'm pretty sure that he didn't write it. There are many floating verses associated with this song. I suspect it has it's roots in the UK.
Lovely 🥰
My all time favourite version of this old folk tune – and what a line up backing Elton Britt and the Wilson sisters. Top NY band leader Marty Gold & session drummer Phil Kraus alongside the legendary George Barnes together with Nashville musicians Bud Isaacs (steel) , Ernie Newton (bass) & Eddie Hill ( rhythm guitar). Wonder what those guys were doing so far from home up in the Big Apple in June 1952?
